A few hundred feet north, the Village is threading its own 80th anniversary through America's 250th and Miami's turn as a 2026 FIFA World Cup host city. If you live here, the calendar between June and Labor Day is unusually dense, and most of it is walking distance from your lobby.
The through line worth noticing is that both institutions are programming toward the same audience this summer: the residents and hotel guests who are actually in town during the slow months. That is a shift.
The Shops Are Halfway Through A Restaurant Reset
For most of the last year, the ground-floor dining lineup at Bal Harbour Shops has been in transition. Aba departed, then Le Zoo closed at the end of April 2025 after a ten-year run. Two headline replacements have now landed within twelve weeks of each other.
Slim's opened first. The steakhouse opened March 17, 2026, and brings a Hollywood golden-age reimagining of the classic steakhouse from James Beard award-winning restaurateur Stephen Starr to the property. Starr already runs Makoto on Level 3, so this is his second room at the Shops rather than an entrance. Slim's took over the original home of Makoto, which relocated to a larger space in 2022. Expect plush leather banquettes, a 1930s-inspired mural by Christoph Niemann, prime cuts, a raw bar, caviar service, a signature Wagyu cheesesteak, and twin lobster tails.
China Grill is the more emotional return. The legendary restaurant, originally opened in Miami Beach on September 27, 1995, reopened at the entrance of Bal Harbour Shops on June 9th. For anyone who remembers the South Beach original, this is a fourteen-year gap closing. The format has not changed. Dishes arrive continuously and build momentum through the meal, designed to feel dynamic and social for a celebratory dinner, a business gathering, or a spontaneous night out. Hours run Sunday through Thursday from noon to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to midnight, which makes the late-night window on either side of the weekend the interesting one for residents who want the room without the reservation gridlock.

Bal Harbour Village presents 12 Pentagons, a large-scale art installation by British artist and football designer Jon-Paul Wheatley, at Bal Harbour Shops from June 10 through June 28, 2026, with a monumental soccer ball sculpture modeled on Wheatley's Badly Drawn Ball series anchoring the Center Courtyard, joined by an interactive digital station where guests sketch their own ball designs. After the Shops run, the sculpture moves to Bal Harbour Village Beach July 1 through July 27. Two backdrops, four weeks each, one piece.
Wheatley is not a mall-commission artist. He founded the football design studio 12 Pentagons, has built a following of more than 1.7 million through @jonpaulsballs, and his commissions include work for FIFA, Adidas, and Burberry, with collectors including Lionel Messi, Tom Brady, and Tom Holland.
The installation is not a standalone. Bal Harbour Village has also partnered with the Museum of Art and Design to give residents and hotel guests complimentary access to the FIFA Museum's Unidad: The World's Game exhibition at Freedom Tower. Silver Screen at Waterfront Park. An elevated Silver Screen experience featuring The Devil Wears Prada, presented in partnership with the Miami Film Festival. This one lands squarely for the fashion-adjacent audience the Shops built.
Unscripted Art Tour with MOCA. A serene and artful experience at the park, presented in partnership with MOCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art. These are quiet weekday events. Small groups, no fuss.
Family programming at the St. Regis. For residents with young children or grandchildren visiting through the summer, the resort keeps a rolling roster. Arts & Crafts, a Mini Zoo & Ponies, Sand Arts & Crafts, and Family Movie Night all run through late June 2026 at 9703 Collins Avenue. Non-guests can typically access these by booking a day villa or a poolside reservation.
The Market has closed for the season. Worth flagging because residents ask every summer. The Market at Bal Harbour, on the beach path near 96th Street in partnership with Florida Fresh Market, closed for the season on May 31. Weekend produce runs move to the mainland until fall.
